Christmas Sprirt

Tonight, we kicked off our Christmas celebration with dinner at my dad and stepmom’s house. My stepmom can be really considerate. She knows that this is the first of many stops this week and she decided to treat us to a unique holiday dinner. All homemade goodies!

Salsa, guacamole, refried beans, Mexican rice, tacos al pastor with pineapple and cookies. I should have walked home to burn some of that off!

Anyway, everything was delicious and it was a nice visit. There are ten of us. My dad, stepmom, myself, my hubby, my son, my three sisters, my brother and my brother in law. Rather than overspend, we played Dirty Santa this year. $25-30 per person. Bring one wrapped gift in that range and play! We changed the rules a little this year. No unwrapping until the very end and the gift is ‘dead’ once it has been stolen three times. It was great! I ended up with my stepmom’s gift – a Christmas basked filled with movie themed items including some DVDs. She did a really nice job. We brought three items – a Chicago Blackhawks piggy bank, a Chicago Blackhawks winter scarf and a Chicago Bears winter scarf. We’re all hometown sports fans, so our gifts seemed appropriate.

We also exchanged cookies. I brought chocolate peanut butter balls and haystacks. My sister, Catherine, brought peanut butter cookies, potato chip cookies and chocolate chip cookies (I was at her house baking these with her until midnight last night). And my stepmom had sugar cookies, pecan balls, peanut butter blossoms, an oatmeal cookie with butterscotch and chocolate chips and something else that I can’t think of right now.

Bottom line, I am FINALLY in the Christmas spirit!

About jenni41013

I am a 38 year old wife, mom, sister, auntie, daughter, friend and advocate living in the burbs. In 2012 when I started writing, I was on a journey to take a more healthy approach toward my lifestyle. In 2013, I re-evaluated a lot of things and I say "no" to people, things and commitments more often without guilt. In 2014, I got serious about doing what I want to do and really living life. By 2016, I was so much happier living a life I️ loved. And now in 2017, I’m recommitting to a healthier me while still enjoying all life has to offer. I am excited about my life and where I'm headed with the most amazing people all around me!
